With the invention of photography came a whole new way of viewing the world, unlike paintings which are; just interpretations of reality. Photographs are able to represent reality. However, this does not make the image more real. It just strengthens the power of the message because the viewer can now see someone else’s perception of reality, as if it were reality itself. If photographs represent a reality that show a certain type of women to be beautiful and desirable, and this message is continually repeated, society may take on the view that all women must be beautiful and aim to be like this “beautiful” woman in order to be desirable and successful as a woman. But that is not reality!
